Making Global Operations Tangible Through Immersive Visual Storytelling
GE’s Calgary Innovation Centre was designed as a destination where visitors could experience the scale of GE’s industrial capabilities firsthand. My role centered on defining a data visualization strategy that would transform global operations data into a cohesive narrative environment.
The challenge was to create visual systems that could translate abstract performance metrics—spanning energy, infrastructure, and technology—into stories accessible to diverse audiences. To accomplish this, I developed a framework grounded in three strategic pillars:
Clarity: Prioritizing simple, map-based and contextual visualizations over dense dashboards, ensuring information remained legible across large-format screens and environmental displays.
Immersion: Using motion graphics and spatial storytelling to create a sense of global reach and operational momentum without relying on text-heavy explanations.
Relevance: Aligning visual content with GE’s core messaging around innovation, reliability, and scale, so that every display reinforced the brand story.
This approach guided the selection and design of content modules: from 3D globe visualizations highlighting GE’s worldwide footprint to clean metric-driven displays illustrating operational impact in real time. By integrating these elements into an immersive environment, the centre delivered an experience where complex data felt human, immediate, and relevant.
